Pashek Associates Recognized in Cleveland Design Competition - Friday, February 6, 2009
Lakefront Park Design Envisions Intergenerational Playspace to Revitalize Detroit Shoreway Neighborhood
Pashek Associates has received a design award in the second annual International Cleveland Design Competition, interPLAY.
The design, recognized as a Noteworthy Project for the interest and discourse generated at the juried review, was the successful collaboration of several Pashek Associates' creative staff.
InterPLAY was an "ideas" competition focused on providing an outdoor, intergenerational playspace that connects Cleveland's west side neighborhoods to Edgewater Park and Lake Erie.
Inspired by the nearby Gordon Square Cultural Arts district and the surrounding multicultural neighborhood, the design teams incorporated the visual, musical, and performance arts into the space. The design promotes sustainability, leisure, and learning by creating Cleveland's premiere cultural arts park. Key elements included: interactive kinetic sculpture, music-generating gateways and seating, and a stage for performances. Additionally, incorporating the work of local artists and craftspeople into the proposal created a truly innovative and sustainable design unique to Cleveland.
The 2008 competition was sponsored including the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative, The Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, Cleveland Public Art, AIA Cleveland, and the Cleveland Metroparks.
